My 52 M38 fuel gage reads 1/8 tank when bone empty---I should be happy--but--can it be adjusted? I need to pull the probe anyway because it leaks at the base gasket when full...

First make sure the float is not laying on the bottom of the tank. You should pull the filter pickup assembly so you can see the actual position of the float. If it's laying on the bottom then bending it so it rides just off the bottom should let the arm finish it's travel in the resistor and go to empty. If it still reads 1/8 tank with the float hanging full down, free from the floor then the problem is electrical.

If the issue is electrical cleaning the resistor on the sender may help with electrical contact cleaner. There was no system included on the jeep to adjust electrical resistance in the gage circuit. You could add a rheostat and fine tune the gage a little.
