Ok my M38A1 is now at the stage I would call "almost complete". There is some really minor stuff I still have to do though.
On my shake down run I discovered some minor issues.
1. I need to tighten the mirror; it doesn’t stay in one place for a very long.
2. I need to use some bailing wire to secure the upper support rods to the top bow. Bubba in his great wisdom in the past decide he could yank the top apart with extreme force and elongated the holes that the cross member hooks into. At high speed they disconnect. Rather then pay out the ass for a new set of top bows I can solve the issue with 5 cents of bailing wire and almost no one will notice. This will be a project to fix next summer.
3. I need to plan for additional time when driving because of the amount of people that will swarm you at the gas station with questions. I had about 4 people come up to me at Sac N Pac when filling the tank up.

Great job! You'll easily take care of #1 and #2, but with your jeep looking so fine, I'm
afraid that #3 (needing to allow more time on trips) will continue to be a necessity! _________________ Support our troops, past and present.

Nope...he just parks his car that way. He lives there.
Funny thing is I have passed several sheriff deputies doing radar/registration patrol during the summer when test driving this thing and they are so busy thinking "HEY, AN ARMY JEEP" that they ignore the fact I was driving with no plates or stickers...lol |

Nice. Can't wait until mine is done. Makes me want to strap a chair to my rolling chassis and start driving. |

53a1,
Pictures of that would be a must. We did that once when we were young.Had a 1938 Ford truck with the cab and bed removed ,a larger truck, about a F6 ,that had a straight frame on it. WE put a chair on the frame on a piece of plywood ,a gas can and battery and drove about three blocks to the gas station and bought a gallon of gas. The clerk asked what it was and I said a 38 Ford,he said he had never seen one before. But we didn't get pics, tho I wish I had them now. |

After reading Wes's responses to my tranny and engine questions I think it actually makes sense. I'm putting in a used tranny and engine and I want to weed out any major problems before I put the tub back on so... consider it done. |
