I did a search but could not come up with any results. What were the production dates and production numbers for the M38?
Thanks,
Bill

Hello Bill,

The numbers are always arguable but the 6 Pilot models (some will argue 7) came out in the spring of 1950 and the production M38's started down the line in September 1950 with the last off after the strike in July 1952. The written inventory sheets I have seen show a varying amount produced from 60,000 to 63,000. The monthly production figures are all over the board depending on what reports you read. It's difficult to lock down monthly production from Sep 1950 thru May 1952 because the jeeps came with only the year of manufacture on the serial plate.

The last M38 in my data base with a survey form is MC71282 with a DOD of 6/52. Since serials started with 10001 that makes it at least 61, 282.

Yes the Canadian M38's and A1's have a different serialization and contract system. Your serial number
Quote:
E-101784
should read F-101784
and your
Quote:
CAR# 20LU742
should actually read 52-3206X.

Stanly Blair's M38CDN is one serial before yours:
SN F101783, Made 9-16-52, on contract E20 LV742, ARMY, CFR 52-32068
