Hi,
I finally ended up installing vaccum lines of my M170. Engine works like a clock, all engine job done.
Mine is a 1962, has no deep fording and vaccum/air boosting is restricted to engine crankcase+distributor+windshield wiper motors.
My question: how can I test if the vaccum produced by the fuel pump (vaccum diaphragm) is enough to ventilate and ensure cooling of the inner distributor mounted coil? I have a feeling that the air flow is very little. Vaccum for the windshield wiper motors is poor as well. HELP! Embarassed
Thanks!
Claudio

just found 2, "stuttering" and "M38A1 vacuum pressure", Not sure if this helps but I think I have read that the M170 has a similar system to the M38A1.

I am not home this week so I do not have the numbers handy. You connect a vacuum gauge to the wiper side of the wiper "T" on the upper left rear side of the engine. The correct vacuum reading is listed in the service manul under the fuel pump specs. If you have less then that figure check to make sure the restrictive orifice is in the side of the "T" fitting that feeds the distributor. If it is and you have a low reading then your vacuum boost from the pump is not adequate.
