Take a look at these two pictures. I was so busy looking at the carrier that I missed this.

Just look at where the red arrow is pointing. There is a big cunk of metal missing.

I have set the bearing race in to show how much of the housing is gone.

Can this housing be used like it is? Could this have caused the problem with the bearing turning on the carrier mount?

Alan,

You still may be able to use that housing. I would have it checked out by someone locally. That looks like one of those things you have to see in person to get the full idea of if it will work out or not.

Maybe Wes or the other more knowledgable folks can shed some light on this.

Greetings, I would have a close look at the side of the fractured area next to the tapped hole for the bearing cap. If there is a fracture parallel to the tapped hole...it may spread under the load of a torqued bolt and may never be able to be torqued properly to spec. Also, if it is fractured and does hold the specified torque of the cap bolt, it may distort the bearing seat area enough so that the bearing isn't "captured" properly. Kind regards, Rick.
