I am trying to rebuild a horn from my 1951 M38. It is receiving power but it hums. I have disassembled the horn and it is dirty and rusty. Any help woulud be greatly appreciated.

If the windings are still good, (hums is good), clean the contact points with fine wet or dry sandpaper, re-assemble, and turn the adjustment screw to get the tone. Test it on your pair of batteries. After that, buy a good one that works. They are cheaper to buy another than send it to a re-builder. I bought a 24 volt new sparton horn that had the same guts, but was different on the outside, , took the guts out and installed in my M 38 A1's body, and it worked. The cost was around 30 bucks. Save it if you can. John
