One of my '51 M38's has the normal steel petal and the double ball ended rod that goes through the floor to the rubber cup and round steel socket. M38's were the only Jeep with this socket type setup. ( I think ) The other one has a ribbed rubber gas petal that bolts identically and also has the socket setup as normal. Is this rubber petal aftermarket or real????????? I've seen other Jeeps with this and thought it was out of a Ford or old car, but this has to be for a M38. What gives here? John
All the supply manuals only list one pedal using 801308 for the pedal with hinge and link and 801309 for the pedal with link only. Both pedals in the assemblies were the same.
Perhaps yours is a repop. The M38A1 lists an entirely different pedal which was superseded once as well so you may have an adapted M388A1 pedal. _________________ Wes K

Wes, I've never seen this petal stock in a A1 either. I've seen aftermarket petals with a rubber petal that the ball snapped into but this one has steel under the rubber. I'll have to get a mirror and look again. most likely a clean modification or aftermarket . Just wanted to know if they actually made a rubber petal originally. John

Looked with a mirror, yep, rubber socket on the petal, aftermarket most likely. I have two A1 petals and will build a correct one using the ball to ball link. Thanks, John
