when doing a factory restoration on an a1, what bolts are painted (from factory) and which bolts were not?. it seems the bolts on the dash, floors are not, but what about your bolts that not that easily seen like the tie down bracets and underneath bolts. thanks for any info.
The only reliable source for that answer is the existing factory photos and service period photos that have dates that jive with pictured jeep's hood number meaning it was very new issue. _________________ Wes K

thxs wesk, ive been told the bolts that you see from the outside of the jeep were not painted?. dont know if this is true or not. if some of the panels, bumpers and other parts were painted before assembly then i can see where this would play in.
im in the process of cleaning and painting the small items of the jeep and would like to keep as factory as i can,
maybe others will chime in and post some pics and send me in the right direction.
thxs again michael
I know these photos are of the M38, but I'd guess that the A1's would've followed the same pattern (i.e. painted). Note that the fender bolts in the production line photo doesn't appear to be painted, but the ones on the snow-covered jeeps do. Maybe the jeeps got a final overspray after they came off the production line?
The bolts from my M38 all had traces of OD under the air force blue. Of course, the OD could have been applied in the motor pool.
I don't like the idea of my nuts & bolts being naked , so I'll be painting them all.....

Check out as many factory photos as you can. But also the next time you attend an MVPA event take note of who scores high witt their jeeps and how those details were presented. There are still unanswered questions with these jeeps so some of the judging is done using commonly accepted assumptions. It will be of benefit to know what the judges are going to look for and typically call correct or incorrect.
There are a couple of photos out there with raw hardware showing but they usually are considered pilot or publicity vehicles and do not have USA numbers on the hood.
