HOW TOO!, the 24 volt accesories, (black out dr lights, horn, headlights) would like to know if they still work before i clean and paint. so if anyone can post on how to bench test these. it would be a great help to me and maybe someone out there lurking. thxs
The items you listed are tested the same way you would test 6 or 12 volt components. Supply appropriate battery voltage to the plus terminal and ground the negative side to the battery's negative post. When this is done the lamp will illuminate and the horn will blow.
To test the more complex items you will need the following manuals:
TM 9-1825B Autolite Electrical Component Overhaul, Repair and Testing.
TB 9-2300-228-20 M Series vehicla troublshooting guide for instruments and senders.
TM 9-1825E Bendix-Scintilla connectors, switches and magnetos.
If you have a Delco voltage regulator or generator you will need:
TM 9-8627 Electrical Equipment Delco Remy Overhaul, Repair and Testing
The necessary exerpts from these manuals that apply to our jeeps are loaded on our downloads page.
The minimum tools you will need are a basic automative maintenance tool set and the following:
VOM (Volt-Ohm Meter)
Test Lamp with 24 volt lamp
M Series vehicla electrical test lead adapter set.
It would help to have access to:
Capcitance tester
Coil tester
Amp Meter
Low Voltage Test set (LVT)
Dwell Meter
Timing Light
If you have no experience with these tools and test sets then the best advice is take an electrical course or take this type work to a good automotive electrical shop. Home grown amateur experiments with these components when not done correctly usually result in destruction of expensive components. _________________ Wes K
