Found some old pics of my M38A1 from the 70's & mid 80's
This was in the 70's not really sure what year, but my A1 was a Civil Air Patrol unit after its military service
This one was from the mid 80's. My grandpa had just had it painted back to OD green
And the '53 he had. My grandma had sold this one after he died in '95. I was so upset to see this one be sold. It was in very good condition. I just wish we still had this one!!
So here is the dumb question of the day. On the blue M38A1 what type of top is that called? Is it just a regular top cut down? or an original finished article like a "Summer Top" Where these ever issued?
I have seen these that were cut down but sometimes they look more fitted like an original article. At least in pictures.
These pop up in photographs now and then but I have never known their real name.
Looks to me it is a regular canvas full top with the doors and sides removed and the rear panel tucked up under the top out of site. We used to do that a lot. _________________ Wes K

Thanks Wes! That makes sense. I have seen this on M151 jeeps were they were cut down but always wondered about the A1's. Cutting the top always seemed like a last resort.

That takes me WAY back, those pics of the CAP Jeep. In the 70's we had about 15 of them in the CAP Wing I was a member of. Had an M38 assigned to me, then when we received the A1's, I got one. I actually wanted an A1 when I went looking for a Jeep, but I ran into a nice flatfender and sprang for that instead. It is also painted AF Blue and decal-ed to represent Civil Air Patrol as they were marked in 1977 with the CAP seal on the hood with the ID # below it. When they finally sold them off under sealed bids, I could've had one for about $500 in 1982! I could kick myself if I could reach back there......
My M100 was a former CAP item. My trailer and your jeep might have been paired up in the past. _________________ Tropical Veteran
