I have an early M38 (1951). It does not have the metal bar for the gas can strap on the tailgate. Were there any differences in the early M38 tailgate.

I can't remeber the thickness.
I think I understand your term chain drilling, one hole then another then another right next to each other. That's how I did it then dressed it up with a file. _________________ Brett
