I am restoring a m38a1 and after collecting some parts and a new body. I found this one in Springfield. It is a 52 m38a1 forestry jeep. They took the m38a1 tub off and put a cj5 tub on it for some reason. I don't know if it is a cj5 or a m38a1 tub. There is a lot of things thatare mm38a1 and cj5. You look and see. Vin number is 21850 low number. Can't seem to post picture.

1 - CJ5 has a tailgate & the M38A1 does not have a tailgate.

2 - CJ5 has a single round hole in the dash for a single cluster gauge unit. The M38A1 has a large rectangular hole in the dash for a 5 gauge and three light set-up instrument cluster.

Before assuming someone put a CJ5 tub on an M38A1 frame try to ascertain which frame you have. The M38A1 frame has a machine gun mount support pad on the crossmember just behind the front seats / CJ5 does not. M38A1 frame rails are boxed on the insides from the bumper to the firewall / the CJ5 frame is not boxed.
