I see the kits online and was wondering what comes in the kit? I need just one flapper. There are chunks missing on the sides of the one I have. Has anyone had any luck in fabricating this flapper part. The rest of my wiper motor looks OK . I have found some motors on line, some are quite a bit less expensive than the M38 motor. I think any could work, but I already have the acorn and wiper arm set up and with out one in hand, I don't know. Just trying to research things before ordering a whole wiper motor.
Thank you. _________________ Rusty, 1952 M38, Koenig hard top.
I worked with him to get a BOM on the V35 wiper motor--told me he had everything to rebuild it if I came up the motor. The V35 wiper motor looks the same as the M38 motor but has the vacuum fitting coming out the rear rather than the side like the M38. This was several years ago........Anyway, I see he still sells wiper parts under the name of thewiperman on ebay.
Harold, That is very interesting. Here is what his web site says about repair kits:

When it comes to prewar motors the poor quality of the pot metal castings makes them a challenge to rebuild. Also some of the early repair parts are no longer available. I suggest you call or email me about your prewar Car/Truck for details on your particular application. Better yet is to call me with the motor/motors in hand. Often the motors have been replaced and may in fact be postwar made. A few questions and I will know what you have, and if I can help. Below is a partial list of early applications of Trico motors.

It has been quite a few years ago (10+) and things change. I kept him as a resource since good working original CJ and military wiper motors are hard to find. Other than new NOS (expensive, and when available), most of the used motors you find are just cores--Now, it looks like there is no place to find the soft parts that go bad. I would think he is still a good source for research, if he is willing.
It still brings up the question on how we are going to keep these old wiper motors working. The kits out there now along with NOS motors will dry up sooner rather than later. With all this coming to light, that 20 some dollar rebuild kit on ebay looks like a bargain!!! _________________ Harold W.
