Thanks to wes and bill for helping me with the id of my jeep.
We believe it to be a m-38.
I have started to remove the paint and look for any marking that may help me identify the history of the jeep.
I have the following questions.
The origional color of the jeep appears to be bright yellow. Is this possible? I have removed paint on the lower part of the hood on the passanger side. The is some lettering on part of the hood right above the fender.
2. There seems to be a red stripe that make a point like an arrow on the top of the hood. The width of the stripe seems to be three to four inches wide. Does anyone know what this may be.
3. I removed paint from the front bumper on the drive side. There are two black stripes on the yellow paint. Any clue to what this may be.
4. I removed the paint from the top of the hood on the drive side and it looks like there were two letters about 4 or five inches high. The both looked like C's or they could have been O's with some of the paint missing.
5. When i inherited this jeep there were two others with it. One jeep seemed to be whole but I never bothered to look at it because it was in the back of the shed. The other jeep was nothing but the frame, engine and transmission. I think it is everything except the body. I had them hauled off when i sold the ranch. I have called the gentleman that hauled the jeeps off and told him I may need them for parts. Is it worth it to drive five hours one way to retrieve the jeeps. I will have to make two trips since i can bring only one a a time.
I have photos of all of the markings that i have asked about in case anyone wants to see them to help answer my questions. I do not know how to post them and i do not know if anyone would be interested if i did.
The jeep was left to my by my uncle who lived close to galveston. That might help answer some of my questions.
That would make it possible to be a Navy flightline unit. What color is the paint inside the tool box, up behind the dash at the top of the battery box, and under the patent plate on the right rear wheel house?
If the other two jeeps are classics then it would be worth the trip.
Open up a photo album on our "Photo Gallery page" and you cam easily load your photos there and reference them here. _________________ Wes K

The Army freighted them on trains during WWII with one on top of the other by staggering them. The four tires of the top jeep line up perfectly with the centers of the fenders and the rear wheel houses. You can also tilt each jeep upwards at the end towards the front of the trailer. You pull the first jeep on and up to the front of the trailer and then block it's front tires up about a foot and a half. Two metal milk crates work nicely. Tie that jeep down. Now back the second jeep up on the trailer and raise the rear and set those two wheels on top of the first jeep's wheel houses. _________________ Wes K
