Ok, here we go again! What is the easiest. lowest cost way to get a title? I restored an M38 and the data plates are gone but there was this number on a tag on the firewall: I06379. Any suggestions would help!! thanks, SBJ

That depends entirely on what state you are in. The first place to ask this question is at your Motor Vehicle Office. Over the last two years the familiar title companies like Broadway have withdrawn from the MV titling business.

The point in time has come where short cuts and back door title services are not available and you will either have to produce a bill of sale for the serial number of your jeep or pursue the two common alternatives.

Get a serial number from your State's DMV for an assembled from parts vehicle.

Locate a title bonding company and put up several hundred dollars in escrow for them to bond your bill of sale for a certain required period of time then have your DMV issue a title under the serial number you have.
