John,

Just to be sure you get what you are looking for there will need to b a bit of clarification on your request. Many of us old timers actually refer to the 1962 - 69 Chevy II 153 CI 4 banger as the Iron Duke. GM went on to build and mature several Iron Duke engines after that but the Pontiac 151 CI 4 banger is the one usually thought of by the younger folks. And of cours the Liters instead of Cubic inch thing is for the real younguns. Wink
The 181 CI Vortech 3000 Marine version has been used on land as well.

Quote:
The 153-cubic-inch (2.5 L) 153 was a straight-4 engine which was designed for use in the entry-level Chevy II/Nova. Usage of the 153 lasted until 1970 when the inline six was made the base powerplant with the Chevy II/Nova. Currently, descendants of the 153 are used with industrial (forklifts or generators) or marine applications. The 153 had a bore of 3.875 inches and a stroke of 3.25 inches. The firing order is 1-3-4-2. A later variant of the 153, the 181, used a larger 4 inch bore and a longer 3.6 inch stroke. The 181 (branded by GM as the Vortec 3000 for marine or industrial usage) was not installed in passenger cars. This engine is entirely different from the later Pontiac 151-cubic-inch (2.5 L) Iron Duke, but the two are often confused today.
Applications:
1962–1969 Chevy II
1967–1971 Postal Jeep
1968–1973 Chevrolet Opala (Brazil)
1964 Chevrolet Van

You are right on track as to the app. for the lil 4 banger what I'm lookin for. The one I need is the engine used in the "mail Jeeps". I owned one and it was amazing with the turbo trans. With 10" tires these lil jeeps really pulled.

That is the 2.5 L or 153 CI Chevy II engine. The 181 CI or 3.0L marine version of that engine would be the cat's meow for your jeep.
