Ok I tried the search engine 1st and drew a blank so here I am...

1st up are the "J" hooks used for the rear seat on a M38A1 the same as a M38?

2nd are all the other rear seat mounting hardware the same or different between the M38 and M38A1?

Thanks!
Phil...

The brackets (the spring, the retaining angle that bolts above the seat pivot tube once you have the seat in place, and the heavy bracket that rivets to the wheelhouse panel) all have G740 part numbers, so they should be the same for both jeeps. Btw, the wheelhouse bracket is listed as G740-7697497 in the M38 ORD 9, but it's listed as G740-7697498 in the M38A1 ORD 9. Not sure if it's a typo in one of the manuals, or if they changed the design of the M38 one for later production. Confused According to those parts lists the M38 gets rivetted on and the M38A1 gets bolted on, so maybe that's the difference?

The "J" hooks on the M38 are longer (the M38's tailgate sticks out further than the M38A1 back panel does). So, the M38 "J" hooks won't fit the M38A1 correctly (and vice versa).

There's a good picture of the setup in the M38A1 ORD 9 (page 308).....

Owen.

You'll find the answer in My photo album under the sub-album "M38 Body"
http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?set_albumName=album76&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php

All rear seat retention parts are the same for the M38 and the M38A1 EXCEPT THE "J" HOOKS.
WO# 673338, ORD# 7697498 is for the M38
WO# 681161, ORD# 8328486 is for the M38A1

M38

M38A1

Not correct. There is no G740-7697498 in the M38A1 ORD 9. That number is only in the M38 ORD 9 and it is for the seat back "J" hooks.

Oops, must've got the M38 & M38A1 manuals mixed up somewhere. Embarassed That's the problem when this old sod tries to view two files simultaneously on the same computer screen. Sorry for any confusion.

I'll get my coat......
