After 40+ years, I''ve decided to put my modified 1952 M38 up for sale. It has a Ford 289 V8 and standard Jeep transmission/transfer case with overdrive. Engine and brakes need some work. Has steel top, heater, 12V electrical. Needs some more TLC that I no longer have the time or funds for. Any thoughts on what it's worth? Photos available.

check out eWillys .com. Dave has set up that site to cover any pre 84 jeep for sale ,concentrating on Willys. i'm sure you'd find it helpful in determining a price for yours. you can even e-mail the photo's to him and he'll put them up for you.

It can be worth anywhere from $1000 to $5000. A much more accurate description (with photos) will allow us to narrow that down as will more detailed comments on it's condition and what actual repairs are needed.

Some examples of questions that need to be addressed are:

1-Does the jeep have a marketable title with a serial number matching the jeep's serial number?
2-How well or how poorly does the engine run?
3-Have you recent compression test results?
4-How many miles on the engine since it was new or last rebuilt? When was the last rebuild?
5-Do all lights work? Are they street legal?
6-Do all the gauges work?
7-Do the parking and service brakes work? If not what do they need to fix?
8-Are engine temps in the green?
9-What is the idle and wide open throttle oil pressure?
10-What alterations have been made to the body, frame and cooling systems to accommodate the 289 Ford?
11-Does the tranny and transfer function correctly in all gears?
12-Does the clutch slip or grab?
13-What shape is the body and frame in from a corrosion stand point?
14-What is the condition of the paint and interior?
15-What is the condition of the tires.
16-Have the brakes, drive gears, steering, or electrical equipment been overhauled or replaced recently?

Sounds like a lot but it is what everyone will need to know to either provide an answer to your value question or influence a buyer's decision.

The 1st question i'd ask was whether or not you have a valid title.
