After many, many years my M38 has been rebuilt and is running again. However, I have found that my legs are a lot longer than in my teenage years. They no longer squeeze under the steering wheel as easy as they did in the past and I am having trouble applying the brake. Has anyone switched to a smaller diameter steering wheel?

Thanks!
Scott

I've seen many aftermarket steering wheels with reduced diameters in use over the years. I have one on my 1960 CJ5 snow plow jeep. They give about 4" more leg or belly room but increase the turning effort considerably. search the jeep aftermarket parts houses for a wheel that fits any 46 thru 1971 CJ.

I second Wes on the increased turning effort.

When I bought my M38A1, she was fitted with an aftermarket (tacky) dune buggy steering wheel. It was about 4" smaller total diameter.

Switching to the correct steering wheel greatly improved steering and handling. I would have a really hard time going back to the smaller wheel.

You can also try fitting thinner seat cushions to get more room.
