Thank you 53a1.

I now understand how they are supposed to work, by compression. I can say the previous motor restoration missed that, as the rods were cut flush with the block.

OK, so this morn ...

This is a question about the two round 3/8" rubber rods that fit in the rear main bearing cap. P/N WO-637790.

First question is: What is the function? Is it only a positioning part or has it also ...

Ok, all understood. I'll be careful with the sealant, that's for sure.

What about the crankshaft oil seal in the timing cover? Does it need sealant to keep it leakproof? I can't find any text about ...

PostForum: Technical Knowledge Base   Posted: Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:59 pm   Subject: M38A1 engine gaskets
I made the gaskets out of .020 (0.5 mm) paper which was a little bit thicker than the original one.

Maybe it is better to skip these two gaskets to avoid the bell housing problem? I don't have any ...

I did not have the two smaller brackets on my M38, and also was not aware that they existed. Thanks to Wesk, I learned about them and was able to get them from Midwest. The longer bracket has a rubber ...

I have started to reassemble my M38 engine. Where should I, and where should I not use gasket sealant?
What type(s) of sealant are recommended?

Thank you rdsar2k,

It makes sense that the bracket has the rubber vulcanized at the factory and that the rubber is not available as a separate item.

I'll shop around a bit for new items, otherwi ...

Aha! Thank you Wes!

I start to understand now. First, I only have the horizontal bracket, not the two lower ones. Are they possible to obtain or should I fabricate replicas?

Secondly, my rubber ...

I have disassembled my M38 engine completely and I'm now in the (slow) process of cleaning and painting everything. On the engine rear plate there is an "L" bracket fastened with 4 Allen screws (the o ...

OK, thanks Dan.

They have come out a bit wider than .080 after grinding so I think I'm rather within the limits .093-.125.

I have a 20 and 70 degree grinder so I can adjust the width if I want. ...

Question: What is the specified sea ...
