I havent put it on yet because the offset had me scratching my head. When i pushed the boot down to see what it would look like against the pan is when i noticed the gap.

Thanks, Brian. I'm not really sure what nuts to use. I can't find what they are called in the parts manual and am not so sure what to look for at the store. J-bracket nuts look like they would work ...

Hrmm, this is a '53. It is a CDN, not sure if that makes any difference.

Fuel tank isn't original. Doesn't even have a sending unit (much to my chagrin).

Right - I was asking about the boot just in case, by some weird chance, water was seeping in from the top.

Thats why I'm stumped - I don't know how it got in there unless it was through the vent. ...
