I just don't physically see any mating holes in the battery box itself or in TM9-8014.
Nor are there any holes in the "L" brackets in those TM's.

Either lightening holes or bolt holes. I would guess weight wasn't an issue and facilitating the bolting of the brackets if desired is the most likely reason.

That's why it is handy to have both the Nov 51 and the Sep 55 editions of the M38 ORD 9! And the civvy 1949 Willys Master List. The M38A1 Sep 56 ORD 9 has the same discrepancy.

Correct. I believe the swaging articles are errors in the manuals and do not apply at all the toe rear axle on our M38's.

You were close Hal but the M38 is not like the modern cars.

In the M38:

The switch on the dash is a master switch and only applies power when on to accessories and the ignition system coil.
