Hello Eric,
Your M38 engine is essentially the same as the earlier engines for overhaul data. The very early WWII vintage engines had a chain driven cam instead of the gear driven cam but their instructions work just fine.

John Barton has posted an excellent multi-segment presentation on the G503 site for the WWII engine. You can use it in conjunction with the correct manual for your M38 engine TM 9-1804A.
