I have a 1952 M38; I have been troubleshoot chasing using TM-8012, and OS9-72 manuels.

The trouble is; it idles great but when there is a load placed on the engine (a hill) it begins to miss and loose power, then smooths out again without load. Civilian plugs wires are intact, Autolight plugs are good, new points properly gapped, coil is 2 years old. I have replaced the condenser three times; each time it appears to take of the symptoms but they return.

I have kitted the carb seems to be working great. I am leaning toward a defective coil. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Jim

You have a plug wire breaking down or a cracked dist-cap .the fire to the plug is sparking till it gets under aload ,and its drowning out the plug from the rich mixture it needs to power up the hill .
