I'm sure this topic may have been covered but I couldn't find anything related under "search"... so I'll ask here...

I'm thinking of converting my 2 part system to the one piece 24volt alternator.. I understand, correctly?, that the later 60's and early 70's M38A1 jeeps had these 60 amp alts installed. So if I could find the related parts to this setup, it would make life easier.. As well the alternators for the M151/A2 jeeps are the same?

I know I'll need a tension bracket. other brackets? I do have a wiring conversion kit already in the mail.. And a voltmeter.. thanks...grant

yes I know it won't be original, but may be a more reliable system?

The problem I see with the several alternator conversions the Army had for the M38 & M38A1 are the size and weight of the alternator was not an improvement over the 25 amper. I find the 28 volt, 60 amp Ford alternator (DOFF10300J) weighs 1/3 of the weight, and is 1/3 of the size of the big guys.

MWO ORD G740-W11 covers the 4 belt alternator setup for the M38.

One of the changes to TM 9-8014 covers it for the M38A1.
