I've read the download info on this site on the vacuum wiper system for the M38 and was wondering... I just want to hook up my drivers side wiper for the time being (my kids love to play with the manual arm on the pass side too much). Is it OK to follow the steps and install everything and just omit connecting the passenger side wiper unit (and associated lines between the wiper motors) from the system?

Also, I see references to 1/4 and 3/16 vacuum lines to the wiper in various posts. Will either work or is 3/16 better because of the smaller diameter?

For just the driver's motor all you need is the single line in. If you are not going swimming with the jeep then that's all you need. Leave the vent port open or to keep the inside of the pump nice run the second hose/tube to the vent connection on the air cleaner.

3/16" is the correct hose size. 1/4" will not seal with the tubes and nipples as well.

Thanks Wes - I thought it would work, but wanted to double check. Good to know about the vent side as well - makes sense - I'll probably go ahead and run the line to the air cleaner to be safe and have it ready for when I do install a working pass side motor.

Then it's easier to install both of the cross tubes and their clamps now and for now just utilize one tube.

Here's a nice view of the tubes but notice the incorrect 1/4" rubber hoses.
