I went over to the airfield and filled my can with 50/50 100LL and 87 pump. Very nice setup because the place is 15 minutes away, practically deserted, self serve and takes debit. 4 something a gallon is no big deal considering how little I drive the jeep.
I pre-mixed some for my 2-stroke and the rest in the Jeep. I fired up both machines and both ran just as good as before. I'm going to sleep a little better tonight.
I decided on 50/50 because the Ethanol worries me and I want to thin it out as much as I can.
Now I'm wondering if I should put this mix in my lawn mower and weed whacker. _________________ '53 M38A1 X2 |

How long will the blend of 3 to 1 last as I know the modern gas does not store well. I ask because I live in NY and won't drive the jeep in the winter months due to salt and travel for work so I am often on the road and not home to drive my m38 much. Is it better if I just mix it as needed and keep a few cans of the avgas on hand?

I not the expert but I would put some pure AVGAS in and run it for a minute to fill the carb and pump. When driving time arrives mix in your pump gas. 4 to 1 seems like too little AVGAS to me. _________________ '53 M38A1 X2 |

in my area of the world the sinclair and chevron stations sell
unleaded gas w/o added ethanol. theres still no lead in it but
the ethanol problem is gone. if it is ethanol added theres a
sticker on the pump stating so- but im not sure if no sticker
necessarily means no ethanol. i was talking to a former fuel
jobber the other day and he told me about sinclair and chevron. _________________ keep 'em rollin'

IGot avgas today. $4.90/gal. The county airport is only 5 or 6 miles. so I can run down there anytime and get it. That is during daylight hours. The fella working there was new and did not know if he could sell me the gas. So he phoned his boss and asked him. I figured, Oh! now he's gonna get someone else involved whose gonna say no. I guess the new guy didn't want to lose his job already. No problem, which it shouldn't have been anyway.
I drove my jeep. As usual it was conversation piece. It held 5 gal. then I filled the jerry can up which I will cut with regular gas.
It's a small airport. Half a dozen planes on the pad. We talked a bit. I guess he gets bored. Wants me to come back and drink coffee with him. I'll probably go back and take two 5 gallon containers to have here to blend.
When we get some warm weather I'm going to take the jeep for a run with the trailer on it and see how far it will go on a tank of gas. Then later I'll do it with out the trailer. _________________ Tropical Veteran

I went to various stations in my area. None had the Ethanol sticker but they all have Ethanol. I found this out by talking to the managers.
I guess I never explained why I'm fed up. Turns out they get a tax credit when they carry Ethanol but they don't pass the savings on to you.
On top of this you get worse milage and it's worse for your vehicle.

My understanding is that the pumps are suppose to have a sticker showing what percent ethonal is in the gas. _________________ Tropical Veteran

Don't bank on that. I'm going to order a test kit so I know how much is in the mix. _________________ '53 M38A1 X2 |

I was made aware of this site on a Dodge MV site- www.pure-gas.org lists the stations state-by-state that still sell ethanol-free gas.

I have noticed that the gas stations that I frequent have removed the ethanol sticker on the pumps. _________________ Tropical Veteran

Wes, I'm getting ready to put my jeep on the road to participate in South Boston's St Patty's Day Parade. In discussing getting my jeep ready it was suggested I use a few ounces of Mystery Oil in the gas to help get rid of any water vapor and to help it run better. I know that adding some 100LL AVGAS would be ideal but I'm not sure I can pick some up around here from a local airport. Massachusetts being what it is....
Anyway, any other thoughts to putting it on the road? I'll change out the oil before the ride too but just like to cover all bases.
Thanks! |

I haven't picked up any yet, but when I called the airport here in North Andover to ask, they didn't seem to have a problem if I wanted to come in with a 5 gallon can to get some. |

Excellent! Good to know about the North Andover Airport. I'll swing by there this weekend to see. |
