If you take the caster wheels off and replace them with steel v-groove caster wheels ... you can then take angle iron and flip it over so that it turns into a rail... set the crane on the track and you have an overhead crane that has a controllable direction for travel.
Add a few more items and refinements, and you get a fully functional crane system for less than the price of a herniated disc in your lower back.
Dang, that hurt! |
It's $700 (OK, $699), doesn't include a hoist, and new wheels and angle iron will set you back over another 100 bucks unless you can scrounge them, so unless you have a lot of use for it, it would be a heckuva lot cheaper to rent something that would do the job. In Rick's case, he already has a front-end loader on his tractor. But, yeah, it would be nice! Of course, so what a lot of other things, like an actual shop _________________ Jim M.

Rick and Bretto,
What you see is not an illusion! It is an original 1952 military tire that is showing its wear indicator. The sidewall split and the tube went into pregnancy mode. It bulged and continued to hold air for about a year but I finally decided 60 years of service was enough for the tires. They were replaced.
That one could be called the original flotation tire. It kept onlookers from getting too close.

It's looking great Rick!
A quick question, on the axe holder on the body, I assume it was spot welded on at the factory? Im into the body work phase and I'd rather get it in place b4 any paint if it is welded. For that matter, is there anything else that get weleded on the body?
Thanks,

YES THE AXE HEAD SHEATH IS SPOT WELDED. IT'S THE ONLY EXTERIOR
PART I CAN THINK OF THATS WELDED. _________________ keep 'em rollin'

Looking good.
After dealing with my fenders expect having to adjust the body and grill a little. _________________ '53 M38A1 X2 |
