For a picture check out 'Greggs' photo album on this site, there's some cracking pictures in it.
Mind you, I suspect he's in traction or on max strength pain-killers due to the posistion he must have got in to take the firat aid kit picture.
Interstingly his picture solved a mystery for me, up until I saw it I'd assumed the bottom panel to the battery box had been somehow hinged at some point!! We live and learn.
Is the first aid box the same as the WWII type??
Hey ho,
Dave.
Dave,
I don't see anyway to prove who, what and where manufactured the first aid kits used in vehicles by the Army from 1950 on. They were drawn from Army stocks and not installed by Willys so whomever may have been supplying them at the time to the Army could have been 2 or 3 different suppliers and could have been like WWII kits or not like WWII kits. Even those who recieved their jeeps from the military surplus system and had kits still under there , there is still no telling when that particular kit box was drawn from stock and installed. Even though the actual contents may have production or expiration dates on them there is no telling for sure when they were drawn from stock and installed in the box and they don't actually date the box for us either. _________________ Wes K

Thanks Wes,
I was wondering because I have a first aid box that I got in a stillage of bits, I put it on the shelf just assumimg it was a post war equivalent until I could figure out what to do with it. Then when I tried to put it in a jeep braket (WWII style) I found it was about 1/2 inch too big in every dimesion and threw it back on the shelf.
From you tone I gather there has been some debate about this??
All the best,
Dave
From the ORD 9 1955 it appears that there was a change in brackets.
There has been postulation that these changes were to accomadate a larger First Aid Kit (FAK).
ORD 9 1955 Pages: 304, 305 at vehcle serial number MC59392
J bolt WO-673789 and 7372677
Hinge: 7375352m WO-673784, WO-673785
Differences were not specifically stated in these brackets, so this is just another little mystery that correlates with different FAK brackets and 2 different sizes of FAK that have been observed.
