To my knowledge those are unique to a M-38 CDN... some units had them installed on the fames to allow rail transport of their vehicles...
I believe there were 4 of those on the frame and then one under each spring at the U bolts...
I made and added a set to my M-38 CDN... _________________ Hal, KB1ZQ

So you are saying that I will have to fabricate six more of these for my wife's M38?
I will have to think on that one, do I get rid of the two I have and not mention it,
or do I fabricate six more and tell her how much I love her and that no job is
too big for her jeep!
I guess it is a bit of a stretch since she already knows me! _________________ 1952 M38CDN (in progress)

Never toss. Always just misplace where the wife is concerned. Then if the topic ever comes up you can simply say, "Yes I seem to remember seeing them during the rebuild but for life of me I have no idea where they are. "
If she dismisses the issue without prejudice you win. If she insists on having them ask her to help you find them and hopefully she will find them, you put them on and voila, You Win Again! _________________ Wes K

Hello Pat,
These tie downs are Canadian military specs and I've always heard that M38CDNs went to Cyprus with Canadian peacekeepers were equipped with them. Four were installed on the frame but I'm not sure if there were other under each spring at the U bolts. I believe that OKCM38CDN is right because I vaguely remember seeing tie downs at these places. I'll check on my first M38CDN pictures and put them on the forum.

Again me,
The picture under shows where were the tie downs on my first M38CDN. When I sandblasted the frame I removed the tie down that was ahead the clutch pedal.

my M-38 CDN. has the original style tie downs like the U.S. model. my understanding is that for overseas shipping there were tie downs attached to the spring mounts. i've not seen these particular tie downs before _________________ Frank 1952 M38 Cdn CAR 52-31812,1952 M38 Cdn F100005, 1967 Jeepster, 1999 XJ, 1999 TJ " rubiCLONE" |

U.S. tiedowns remained on the frame even if the Canadian ones were installed. I think it was an extra security but I'm not sure.

Excellent photo, thanks
Now I know where to place these, just have to fabricate two more.
Oh, and misplacing things in my garage would not be a lie, I am still finding parts that I never knew I had.
This is just the downstairs!

Take a look at "AXE" post. Looks like he made a strap
with a hinge loop like yours for his axe. Perhaps he
could make yours also?

No thanks
That stuff looks like 1/8"
My strap was hard enough to work at 16 guage with the limited tools I have.
If it were me and was going to fab some, I'd find some tubing and weld it to some 3/16" or 1/4" strap. Thats if you dont care about being 100%. The D-rings should be failry easy to round up. You'd either have to open them up somehow and and close them back up into the tube or cut them in half at the eye then put the legs in the tube then weld the eye back together. Then dress the weld. _________________ Brett

I have no issues with fabricating, I seem to do it almost every night in the shop.
A few of the itmes fabricated in my shop:
The tie down "D" rings will be a snap, actually I think it is 3/16ths.
Thanks for all the info, it is a good day when you learn something new.
