I found a glovebox insert and cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it up under the dash without removing the fuel tank and/or clutch pedal. Any ideas? Thanks. Shawn

Have you tried unbolting the left half of the instrument panel?

No Wes. How will that help? Are you talking about the gauge panel or a part under or in back of the dash?

I am talking about the entire dash panel, all four feet of it is just bolted to the cowl. You did say you were installing the glove box in the left side of the dash on a M38A1 project and not your M38!

In addition to the 11 bolts on the front of the dash you also will need to remove the two steering column support bolts and battery box to dash lower edge bolts. I put a longer bolt in the top right hole of the front of the dash first then with all the others removed you can shift the dash slightly aft and then lift it up and slide the glove box in place. You could also tie it up to keep it out of your way while bolting in the glove box. The harness will limit travel a bit.

Thanks very much Wes. My boys and I are working on this together. They are 7 and 13. It may take a while.

I got the glove box in tonight with the help of my boys. One held the dash up and the other held the light. One other step in taking the dash off was removing the windshield hold down clamp brackets. Pretty simple though. I used some Military surplus never seize on any bolt I removed. We also got the transfer case boot changed and the top bow rods, brackets and top on. Then we fired her up and went for a 5 mile night ride. Great night! Thanks for the help Wes. Shawn

You're welcome. Glad you got some family time in and pleasant evening drive with the boys!
