This question has been kicked around here and on the G503 many times the last ten years. If you haven't already discovered the Army actually issued a MWO to remove the chains all together. I am not aware of an early or late chain. The Army field answer in the 50's was to replace the short chains with M101 3/4 T trailer chains and use the rear shackles to hook up to. The Canadians kept the short chains and added rings at the pintle. _________________ Wes K
