I recently purchased the below photo. What interested me was the large (I assume) radio on the back of this M38. There is no writing on the back of the photo. I also assume this is Germany some time in the early to mid-1950s. The one Soldier on the right, walking towards the camera, looks like he only has only a white name tape on his uniform. If this is so, this must before the standardation of the white name tape/gold U.S. Army in 1957. I'll have to break out a magnifying glass for a better look.

I tried to focus in on just the M38, but I don't have the best scanner.

Looks like an AN/GRC-3 or -4 setup for Armor with infantry with a VRQ-1 & -3. Spare moved to side civvy mount and radio supplies box added to rear of jeep.
Did you notice the tag on the box J-16299? Might post that photo on one of the old Army signal guy web sites and perhaps a signal guy from that era may know more about the set-up. _________________ Wes K
