In several old vintage M38 photos, it appears (some M38s) the wooden hood blocks (windshield supports) have a raised portion in the front. It makes them appear to be an L (on it's side) shape.

(1) Has anyone else noticed this?
(2) If I am not crazy, does anyone know the purpose of this particular
support/configuration ?
(3) If some M38(s) had this particular block support, was it a field addition or
was it factory installed?

The hood blocks are modified like that when the heater kit is installed which moves the wipers to the top of the windshield.

theres lots of photos of m38 with the L hood blocks with wiper motors in the normal position. ive seen these used this way in the US Army European commands.
my opinion is the windshield channel is the contact point on the blocks when the windshield is down causing damage to the channel. by notching the block the top of the frame above the channel rest on the block. I also belive the blocks are larger than stock.
may have read this in PS but, cant remember for sure.

There is a PS item to cut radiator hose and screw it to the top of the blocks
to cushion the windshield frame.
