I know that the M38a1 did not have a gov't issued rifle rack or scabbord, but there must have been some installed.

Any idea of what type or kind were ever installed?

Is there any that were ever documented, noted in pictures, etc.?

The only common one was the Heavy ruck floor mount type. But plate screwed to the floor and the upper latch arm bolted to the dash.

This question has been popped a lot if you do a search you will find several solutions posted in the past.

The two gun vertical kit is only $46 at Saturn Surplus: http://saturnsurplus.com/miscpage/miscpage.htm

The driver side looks pretty tricky to get around. I have a hard time getting out of my M38 as it is. But I like the center style configuration better.

It's not in the way if you grab it on the way out...
