|
|
My M38 jeep reproduction body came with the instrument panel installed with four bolts and nuts. My original instrument panel has Dzus fittings. I'd like to install the original but I'm not sure how to proceed.
Currently there are four 3/8" holes drilled in the body for the bolts. I have the correct Dzus fittings but I can't figure out how they install on the body. Any help would be appreciated. I tried an internet search but the type of Dzus fittings they showed are not the kind used on my jeep. Thanks, Marty |

I have all the parts. Sorry that I'm slow on this one but I can't figure out how the part with the prongs physically attaches to the jeep. Do they go into a hole or clip to something? Marty |

if I remember correctly, there is a small indentation in the center of the hole on the dash. the middle tang of the clip fits into this indent and the other two go on the other side of the dash panel. do this on one side of the clip then you need to pinch the clip to fit it into the other side of the hole. spring pressure holds the clip in place.
the middle tang is on one side of the dash panel and the other two are on the other holding the clip in place.
make any sense? _________________ Gary Keating

I just installed one today; it is intuitive how they fit; I used needle nosed pliers and squeezed it from the back with the one prong in the detent until the other prong popped into the opposite one. The are springy and it fit well. |

I wish I would have known this weekend that I was suppose to squeeze the clip to insert it. I tried bending one of the center tabs so it would fit through the hole in the dash panel, thinking I would bend it back after it was inserted. I ended up breaking the tab off, of course. So, I reached around the bottom of the dash panel and held the clip in place when I tightened the screw. That worked, but the clip is going to fall to the floor the next time I remove the instrument panel.
Anyone have a spare Deutz clip laying around? _________________ Steve Stark - 1955 M38A1 MD #85388

I just bought a set from Quarter Ton Military off ebay, 12 bucks for a set of 4 plus shipping.
Willyskaiser also has them as well as Midwest military.
Also send a PM to Halfbob he has a few I believe. |
