Howdy all,

When I removed the gas tank strap from my M38A1 for cleaning, de-rusting and repainting, it had felt strips, similar to those that go under the fuel tank, glued to the underside, where it sits on the top of the tank. Sadly, I didn't take pictures.

Was this an original feature or a modification someone made over the years to prevent rubbing and squeaking?

Thanks so much!

Usually a quick search of the technical board using the search box above will answer most any question you come up with. And usually my photo album, which is the 2nd album on the 1st page of "Member's Albums" will yield an answer as well. Particularly my sub album on the M38A1 Fuel System: http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?set_albumName=album115&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php

There aren't any very good illustrations of the actual positioning of each strap. You will need to compare the strap lengths to their possible installation locations to sort them out if you didn't record the old item's locations.

Here's one of Gary Keats photos of his tank's strap with the anti-squeak.
