Never had a set of these before. Pulled and stripped a pair of Dualmatic hubs for inspection and some love. They're in pretty good shape for their age --- nothing cracked, bent, or broken anyhow. They're 10-spline, short body (1-3/4 inch) with original 2-3/4 inch bolts (heads marked "LE"). Would love to know the model number. I finally found a source for the original tabbed lock washers, gaskets, and the ball-bearings, springs, and set-screws for the locking lever retaining detents. Patience pays off in this hobby!
I read in the forums that some folks tended to use star lock washers instead of the tabbed lock washers over the years, and evidence could usually be seen by star-like gouges in the aluminum body. Mine show no evidence of that. Instead, the top of the bolt holes seem to have been machined for some purpose? Can't imagine anybody other than Dualmatic would have done this? Any ideas?
One of the four lock-lever bodies has this gouge. Am guessing at some point the hub was improperly locked and caused it but it still operates smoothly.
I'm going to post this over on the wanted page --- maybe somebody has a busted hub and would part with a good replacement for me. NOS parts don't exist that I've ever seen.
By the way, I'm not just now realizing that I bought a restored M38 that needs to be restored!
Trussed up for paint!

Interesting set. I have seen several styles of that hub over the years.
I doubt those heavy bolt/washer foot prints were a result of any special machine work. That was a common problem with soft aluminum housings being installed by the strong armed small brain mechanics using a 1/2 drive breaker bar and way too much torque. _________________ Wes K
