Hi , does anyone know if the black protective tar in the battery box was a field maint procedure or did they apply the coating in the factory ?

Believe it was a recommended procedure in the field. We applied undercoating on ours hoping to protect the interior from potential corrosive fumes. Make sure you have the vent hose in place and that should help.

Thanks , we are slowly doing a factory restoration and didn’t know if coating was applied at Willy’s or as a field maint .
Our m170 had it , but we removed it during stripping process . Thinking of leaving it off for now .
