Hi i'm trying to find out what is required to remove the bearings from my 24 v generator . I have stripped it down to the point where i need to pull the front cover of the shaft but wondering if i need a specific puller so as not to damage the cover

The Army published two manual for that specific purpose. TM 9-8627 Dated Jun 53 for all Delco Remy electrical equipment and TM 9-1825B dated Nov 52 for all Autolite Electrical equipment. I'd tell you which manual and which page but you did not tell us which generator you are working on.

These two manuals are free to you in PDF format. All you need to do is go to our "Downloads" page and download them.

Downloads Page: http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?name=Downloads

TM 9-1825B: http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=179

TM 9-8627: http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=185

TM 9-2920-214-35 Fld & Depot Maint. Delco Gen 1117495 : http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=152

Your generator parts info is in your ORD 9 SNL G-740 for the M38 and the ORD 9 SNL G-758 for the M38A1/M170.

Actually to get the job done both the model of the jeep and the make./model/part number of the generator are both needed. There were4 different 24V/25A generators used and any of the 4 can be on both the M38 & the M38A1.
