Hello, this is Jose from Spain.

Sorry to ask this, as I think it has come up earlier and repeatedly over the years.

The wooden pieces on top of the hood, should they be painted green or be left unpainted and treated with linseed oil or so?

Thanks!

If you look closely at this factory assembly line photo they appear to be natural wood grain. I prefer to clear varnish them.

I agree at factory probably left in their wood finish or with linseed oil, although I do have a pair of NOS blocks that had sticker dated 1952 and they're painted green...Replacements were probably green

The ones I have were painted green, but the paint is almost gone or in an awful state.

Will probably sand them and leave them unpainted with linseed oil applied.

Thanks for the info!

I hit this thread my mistake, but decided to reread it anyway.

I was looking at the wood blocks compared to the panel trucks to the left. It appears to me the blocks are painted, but the finish is different due to the surface of the wood being different than sheet metal.

I painted mine. They do look a shade different than the sheet metal.
