Wes and Ron,
Yes, I agree I went out to look at the dash again and it has another data plate on the right side of dash painted over at depot with USMC dark OD. There is definitely another data plate there. It has rusted screws as are all the rest. I will try and clean the plates up and we will see what it says. When I get cleaned photos will post them. I hope it's something good. As far as the restoration I want to make it as original as possible but functional. So yes, Ron I will probably buy another front bumper......In the photo if you enlarge it, you can see the data plate on right side. This thing has plates all over that dash.... I'm also an amateur radio guy and I have a PRC 47 its coincidentally a USMC radio it works, and I use it has all the goodies with its headset, code key, antennas legs for remote, etc. it's a complete radio so it will go in the back when I eventually go to shows. Be able to set up a TOC for real. Since I have all that training and deployed experience might as well use it.

Have been looking at the classifieds on the site. And will need some parts so will look there first.

The guy I bought this Jeep from was a car and hot rod collector and builder. He got this Jeep over 8 Years ago and had it in a dry holding storage as did the farmer in SD who had it 30 years in his barn. It has original non-rebuilt engine that his kids took out of Jeep and lost interest in. The engine has no cracks, in block nor head. They are both straight and no warpage. The engine cranks over easily and the cylinder walls look almost perfect. This motor is definitely original, and it's got no more than the 35k stated on speedometer. I'm going to clean it up and put gasket kit on it and make her run.
So, it sat until my friend came along and was buying an old truck from him in one of his fields. The farmer wasn't even trying to sell the Jeep. My friend was climbing on a mountain of stuff in his barn getting truck parts and uncovered it.

They came to deal, and he took it home with him. He didn't even want to sell it but as he was retiring and moving south for some warmth and had 10 other cars to deal with, I came along at the right time. I got a great deal on it. reminds me of that old circus empresario and conman magician PT Barnum famous statement " There's a sucker born every minute" So, I now have to make it run. But as I conned myself into it saying well it won't be as much work or money as a deuce. Here we are.

In any event thank you both Ron and Wes for having the patience to put up with me.
All the best,
Keith

Thinking we should move this thread to the Project page?

Actually it has more value to other members who are looking for a specific answer to USMC jeep ID's. Right here on the Technical board. And it has not actually introduced his project yet. I think we can wait till Keith is ready and desiring to bring his whole project to the board for open long term discussion.

I'm pretty sure I have the details on the bumpers.

Another week of helping a friend with his Jeep Collection, then the Colorado Color Tour, then I may be able to get home and check...
