Been trying to get old jeep out a little and another problem has started in last few days. When you push foot pedal down to engage starter, sometimes will engage and spin engine but a lot of times will just sound like starter spins but will not engage bendix teeth into the flywheel to spin engine. Removed starter today and bendix shaft just fell out of the starter. Do not believe should have done that? Looked at the downloads and saw a yoke that I think holds shaft in the starter? Not took it apart yet to see what is going on. Only the shaft with bendix teeth came out. Anyone else had this issue to come up and what to do to repair?

The repair and setup/adjustment is spelled out in great detail in TM 9-1825B dated 1952. Section VI, Group 4 Sealed waterproof starters on page 316,
