I bought an overdrive last year, and am finally going to install it. I understand that I will have to cut a hole in the transmission/shifter/lfoor plate. I am trying to find an illustration or photo of what sort of hole I am going to have to cut.
Appreciate any help!

Adam,

I have an M38A1 with a Warn overdrive. I'll see if I can grab a few dimensions for you.

We could use a wee bit more info on this! What make/model overdrive and is your jeep currently completely stock?

I just looked up the Kaiser Willys Sales listing for the Saturn overdrive and it offers very good installation photos and a downloadable installation manual:
https://www.kaiserwillys.com/products/replacement-saturn-overdrive/?sku=SATURN-26-teeth&gclid=CjwKCAjw_uGmBhBREiwAeOfsdxoTFhzeBaoGDouNWrZngUwBg24yUafkRRf65Jg1k8X8ZIqyxBe9FBoC3-AQAvD_BwE

These photos are also on page 11 of the Saturn install guide.

Here's a good link on the CJ3A page: https://www.cj3apage.com/index/My_1950/installing_an_overdrive.htm

As you can see in the Saturn manual they suggest cutting a chunk out of the tranny cover and the transfer boot retainer. The 3A set only cuts out the tranny cover right side.

I know your post was several months ago.

How did the installation work out?

From the pictures provided by Kaiser Willys I assume that the red tub was an OMIX replacement tub because the transfer case shifters didn't line up with the tub cut out.

In the other example the shifter itself is different than any other I've seen.
I've got one Husky and 5 warn overdrives installed and never had to cut anything but the cover. I always save the original cover and cut a replacement cover.

Are you happy with the installation?
