I'm a Civi jeep guy but I came across a Auto-Lite 24 volt starter Model MCZ 4002UT if anyone needs it. $50 OBO + S&H from 07463. It weighs 21 pounds. It is missing the top mounted solenoid. I also have a Pintle Hook $25.00 OBO + S&H. email me for pics.

I would be interested in the starter. Will it work in an early M38a1 and can the solenoid be replaced?

I believe the MCZ4002UT is just the later version of the MCZ4001UT. Neither used a solenoid since they are both overunning clutch types that use a kick pedal to engage their pinons and at the end of the kick pedal's travel the starter mounted switch is manually closed to spin the motor.

The MCZ4001UT was used on late M38's and all M38A1/M170's. The MCZ4002UT was used on the M37. They are mounted right side on the Willys L134 & F134 and they are mounted left side of engine on M37.

Richard,

I sent you an email about the pintle hook. I'll take it if it is in good condition.
