I received three spring packs with a buch of parts when I bought my jeep. They don't measure to be M38A1 front springs (a little too short). Can anyone identify these? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The first two have 12 leaves and have 809269 on them and measure 37 15/16 and 38 inches respectively center-of-eye to center-of-eye:

The third one has 9 leaves and measures 34 3/8 center-of-eye to center-of-eye in length:

I read Joel Gopan's remarks on the G for your springs. He actually ID'd them as heavy duty CJ5 units that Willys eventually used for service replacement on the M38A1 by switching part numbers to show one bushing removed.

The nine leafs are not M38A1 since they do not use both the main and second leaf with inter-looped ends for the shackle bushing and pivot bearing.

The data to which he refers is seldom seen today. The same data for supercedures appears on the factory blueprints. The greatest problem for post WWII jeep restorers is the lack of factory production data. This makes life tough. We have tried our best on this web site to provide free access to every bit of data we as a group find but guys like Joel rat hole those little goodies for personal gain and ego support. It's a shame but it's a fact of life.

Wes,

Did they let Joel Gopan back on the G503?

That guy had a lot of information, most of it was fairly accurate.

I have not been on the G503 for a long time, guess I need to check it out.

Ben claims he is not Joel.

I was kind of hoping he was Joel helped me out over the phone one time on his dime for over an hour.

Joel, knows his stuff. But the baggage that came with it sometimes was tiring.
