I cant find any batteries that fit in my hold down brackets and I know that 2HN are not available any more. What kind of batteries should I look for or where can I get a correct size battery.

As soon as the snow clears out up here, I'm going to need new batteries for my A1 too. The forum searching I have done came up with CarQuest 51R-60 and Walmart is also supposed to have a size 51R. I haven't had a chance to actually check on these, so I'm just offering these as possible leads. Good luck, and report back on what you find, would ya? Smile

Kevin at Star has excellent new manufactured batteries. I purchased a set last year at Iola and they have been great. My M38 sat a month in the cold midwest winter and started right up on the coldest day.

I have orderd the 2HND batteries from a local supplier and should have them in a few days. They are made by East Penn.

I used my military account and searched AKO and found that the Optima D51R battery is a replacement for the 2HN in the supply chain. I dont know the dimensions of this battery but it must have the same statistics if it has the same use.

I have an optima, 12 volt, batt in my Allis Chalmers farm tractor that works really well and has, for the last four years. I would really like to be able to buy two of them for my M-38 ...if I could buy two that I know would fit....

I have been looking at the optima dry cell batteries.

Are the dry cells worth the money?

My vehicles sit most of the year.
I have thought about buying two for the M38 and use them on the other antique vehicles I drive. I keep the batteries out of the car, on a battery tender and only put them in the vehicle when in use.

I have a couple of original style 2HN batteries from Star Electric, but I am hesitant about putting fluid in them and using them as they can be more difficult to obtain or used to be anyway.

As I said, I was able to order the 2HND batteries from a supplier, but it took a few days to get. In my searching on AKO , I found the Optima battery as a direct replacement for the 2HND in the supply chain, I bet that the Optima's are available from suppliers locally.
