I have a 24 volt fuel sender that came with the tank I bought.
It is too tall for the tank. It sits about 1/2" high at the top of the lip.
I do know the tank is depressed a little, but I'm thinking this is also the wrong sender. Looks to have a Douglas pin, but the insulator and housing whether Douglas or Packard is gone.
The float arm is approx. 6" from center of float to center of hinge pin, and the overall height is about 7-3/16". There are two numbers on the top of the cover, 8712134 and 57733.
The main reason I question whether it is for an M38 is the float arm moves so much up and down it has way too much movement between the stops for the height of and M38 tank.If I bend the arm to adjust one max setting it makes the other worse.
2-It is also not an M38A1, M170, M151 or M37 sender.
3-The 8712134 ORD# is a much later ORD # so probably for a 60's or later truck.
4-You could try to adapt it to the distance needed in your tank but first make sure it is electrically compatible with your gauge. That is when powered up and connected with your gauge the gauge reads empty when the float is full down and full when the float is full up. If that is the case and it fits the hole and screw pattern on the tank then put your high school geometry to work and figure out a new set of bends and angles. _________________ Wes K
