I have a "1965" M38A1 that I picked up for $700. I know most of the Jeep is original. The only plate left was on the passenger rear wheel well. (MD 72294) I believe this makes it late '54 or early '55. The grill I believe is out of a CJ-5 since it has an intake for the heater core that was installed under the dash. The generator, distributor, and voltage regulator are gone. The alternator and distributor were swapped for 12 volt. The headlights are chrome and it has the CJ-5 front running lights. The voltage regulator and generator brackets are still in place.

The vehicle came with the arctic hard top and doors. Don't believe it was originally with the M38A1 but came from the donor vehicle.

The engine has been rebuilt because the serial numbers on the front are missing and the cylinders are perfectly smooth even though there are 186,000 miles on the odometer.

Photos to follow once I get them uploaded. Just finished taking it down to the frame.

186,000 miles! That's amazing!

The chrome headlight rings may be fixable. I know my m38
rings or doors were chrome under the od when I cleaned and
sanded them prior to painting. And yes, they were as original
as can be reasonable because they still had the springs and
crispy o-rings that seal the headlight.

Sounds like there is certainly ample there for a good start!

Pics?
