Wes,

From what I've found the current 14ga Prestolite wire (M13486 1-5) is rated for 90C and called out for MRAP vehicle production. This wire fits Douglas connectors well with an OD of 0.156 in. The best equivalent I've found on the automotive side is Polyurethane HDT in 14ga that has an OD of 0.153 in, but a little lower max temp rating of 80C.

Looking at Cross Linked wire the only thing close is SXL in 14ga, with an OD of 0.140 in. and max temp rating of 125C. Douglas connectors on this stuff will be a little loose. What I don't know is when military harnesses started using M13486 wire and if it holds up. I've got to dig up a harnesss made in the 50's and see what spec the wire is...........I'm assuming it's not MIL-C-13486......so maybe the current prestolite wire isn't so bad. What do you think?

thanks,
bob

I haven't given it much thought. I try to fabricate my new harnesses from the latest quality material I can find keeping the gauge the same and when OD of insulation isn't large enough for the Douglass connectors I build up the ends with heat shrink.

Have you looked up the 6145-00-705-6678 (H005-0812366) (15-C-2165-200) listing yet on google? They have several hits that offer a lot of spec info.
